Advisers
Staff Adviser - Joyce Favrot
The Department of Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering has a undergraduate staff adviser who acts as a general information resource and deals with academic advising issues such as degree and major requirements, program planning, policies and procedures, academic advising checklists, expanded course outlines, articulation with community colleges, and the procedures for declaring or changing majors.
Faculty Advisers
Faculty members are also available to advise students on such matters as academic and career goals, approval for course equivalency and course substitutions, selection of technical electives and advising for potential graduate studies.

Changing Majors from outside the College of Engineering
To change to the majors: Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical, Mechanical, and Mechanical/Materials from a major in any College (including Engineeing), you must:
- be a registered student and have completed at least one quarter (minimum of 12 units) at UC Davis;
- have completed not more than 135 cumulative units (excluding AP units); students who have completed more than 135 units will be considered on an appeal basis only;
- be in good academic standing and making minimum progress;
- have received a letter grade for all courses that satisfy Engineering degree requirements;
- have completed MAT 21A, B, C; Physics 9A and Chemistry 2A each with a grade of C- or better and a GPA in these five courses of 2.0 or better.
Change of Major petitions for students within the Department of Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering will be approved when a student is in good standing (specific and general requirements do not need to be met).
You must submit a petition for change of major by the tenth day of instruction of any quarter to be processed prior to Pass 1 registration for the next quarter. If you have completed more than 135 units you will not be allowed to file a change of major petition except by appeal. Your appeal must include a quarter-by-quarter program plan of study.
Please email Joyce Favrot for more information.
Advising Holds
Mandatory holds are placed on registration packets
To assist students in completing their program in a timely manner, and to ensure that students are prepared for courses, advising holds are placed on students' registration packets once a year. Students are informed if they have an advising hold when they register for courses.
To release holds:
In order to have a hold released, students must complete an Academic Advising Hold Worksheet Release Form, and meet with the undergraduate staff adviser to discuss their study plan for the following three quarters.
Students need to come to office hours prepared with a written academic plan in hand.
Advising Hold Worksheet Release forms are available in the Department Advising Office, 2132 Bainer Hall.
Students are also required to see a faculty adviser for academic and career advising, and to review their study plan sometime during their sophomore and junior year.
