Research
The Department of Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering has grown over the years to be a strong department with a core of high quality faculty who push the frontiers of science as well as the technology base of their fields. All students are expected to participate in engineering research. The department houses a very diverse range of research laboratories and facilities, and our annual research funding is currently in excess of $6 million. Links to specific projects and labs are found in Research Areas.
Centers
MAE is home to three currently active UC Davis Centers of Excellence. Centers are "Organizational Research Units"(ORU), or Projects (ORP) designated by the Office of Research, and represent collaborative or interdisciplinary research efforts that complement the campus's academic goals.
Laboratories
We have numerous research labs, including: Aeronautical Wind Tunnel Facility, Automotive Powertrain Design, Biomechanical Engineering in Sports Laboratory, Combustion Laboratory, Computational Fluid Dynamics, Environmental Aerodynamics, Integration Engineering Laboratory, Intelligent Manufacturing Laboratory, Material Performance Laboratory, Orthopedics Biomechanics Laboratory, Scaled Model Aerospace Research and Testing Laboratory, Sports Biomechanics Laboratory.
