Heat Transfer

Heat Transfer research is directed at producing high quality global data on convective heat transfer; for flow visualization, for the validation of computational models and for design calculations. Extensive use is made of thermochromic liquid crystal (TLC) thermography.

Recent research has been primarlity directed at understanding and improving TLC thermography. Other recent research has been directed at the effects of turbulence on film cooling, heated oblique impinging jets, and the effects of interrupted thermal boundary conditions on flat and ribbed surfaces. Applications include gas turbine blades and electronic cooling.
