Biosensors
Biosensors can be used to detect compounds in biological fluids or in the environment. Sensor development aims to develop miniaturized, highly sensitive devices that can achieve rapid analyses of samples. A multidisciplinary research team, led by faculty in Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering, is engaged in this work. The Biosensor group in Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering is interested in the development of very sensitive optical detection methods using lasers. This effort is complemented by work on MicroMechanicalElectrical Systems (MEMS) and acoustic mixing in microchannels that is supported by teams in ECE and Applied Science. Close collaboration with biologists is an essential feature of this activity.
